What can I ask my caregivers to do?
A good starting point to answer this question is to look at your Support Needs Assessment, and McIsaac’s Client information booklet .  This will list jobs that an assessor has identified as being appropriate.  There are limitations on what we agree that caregivers can do from a Health and Safety perspective.  For example,  caregivers should not be doing any tasks that involve climbing a ladder.  From our ACC contract perspective we are not contracted to do lawns or gardens.  In most cases we ask that your requests of caregivers are reasonable. If you are not sure about what you think is reasonable discuss this with your Area Supervisor.

If I require extra assistance, can I ask my caregivers to work more hours?
If this looks like occurring, please talk to your Area Supervisor before you ask the caregiver. We can only pay the caregivers based on the approved hours with ACC. Anything over and above this needs to be negotiated with ACC directly.

What happens if I don't like my caregivers before the three month trial is up?
Whilst we cannot compel you to keep someone you do not like, if it is a performance issue then we would like the opportunity to be able to put in closer monitoring or further training. Talk to your Area Supervisor if this occurs.

What happens if my caregiver doesn't turn up for work?
Please ring the Area Supervisor if the caregiver does not arrive as scheduled as soon as you possibly can. If you have a caregiver on shift waiting to be relieved they will be required to stay on until a replacement caregiver is sourced. We pride ourselves on supporting clients and take unattendance very seriously.

Can I change the caregiver roster?
No. The rosters are developed in consultation with you to meet your needs in the first instance and the caregivers in the second instance. We are bound by Employment Law which compels us to go through a fair process in notifying caregivers of change. Talk to the Area Supervisor who will then advise the caregivers.

How much flexibility does there need to be if I need a roster change to accommodate an event, trip, outing or spontaneous invitation?
We are required to provide caregivers with 7 days notice of a change of roster if the circumstances are not exceptional. We do, however, always work as a team and your Area Supervisor would attempt to change rosters to accommodate your wishes and meet our obligations to staff.

The Agency pay our caregivers for their entire shifts, including their break periods. Clients are encouraged to work with staff to arrange suitable times for staff to take breaks.
